Effect of Cellulose Ether on the Water and Hydration Products Evolution of Calcium Sulfoaluminate Cement Paste

Abstract: The evolution of water and microstructure in cellulose ether modified calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA) cement paste was studied by low-field nuclear magnetic resonance and thermal analyzer. The results show that with the addition of cellulose ether, cellulose ether adsorbs water, which is characterized as the third relaxation peak in the transverse relaxation time spectrum of low-field nuclear magnetic resonance. The amount of adsorbed water has a positive correlation with the dosage of cellulose ether. Furthermore, cellulose ether significantly promotes the water exchange between the inner and outer flocculent structure of CSA paste. Although the addition of cellulose ether plays no role in the types of hydrates, it affects the amount of hydrates at specific curing ages.
