Abstract: This paper introduces a new type of NAO disc friction material with low resin content by hot pressing process. The samples were characterized by Rockwell hardness tester (HRS), constant speed friction tester, dynamometer test machine and scanning electron microscope (SEM) for the purpose of studying the friction and wear properties of the friction material. The constant-speed friction test results show that the fade and recovery friction coefficient of the friction material is maintained at about 0.40. The fade rate is -5.13% and the recovery rate is 110.25%. The material has an excellent performance in the fade resistance and recovery property aspects, and has a lower wear rate. It is exceptional in tribological performance. The SEM observation found that the friction material was the result of the combined action of adhesion wear, cutting wear and abrasive wear during the braking friction process. The dynamometer test further showed that the normal friction characteristic value (μnom) of this material was 0.404. It has good speed sensitivity, temperature and pressure sensitivity, good anti-decay performance and excellent braking perfor-mance under different working conditions. It is an ideal brake pads friction material.
