Abstract: Chitosan has high adsorption performance for chrome(Ⅵ), as well as gelatin due to active groups on the polymer chain, such as amino, hydroxyl, carboxyl groups. In this paper, chitosan/gelatin composite microspheres were prepared using emulsion cross-linking method. The preparation conditions were optimized by orthogonal design with the removal rate of Cr(Ⅵ) as an index. The microscopic morphology was studied by SEM. The composite microspheres were used as absorbent for Cr(Ⅵ) in aqueous solution, and the effect of experimental parameters such as absorbent dosage, pH, time and temperature on the adsorption capacity were investigated. The optimal preparation conditions were: mass ratio of chitosan/gelatin 1∶2, emulsifying time 40 min, emulsifier span80 dosage 6 mL, water/oil ratio 1∶7 (volume fraction), emulsifying temperature 60 ℃. The optimal conditions for the removal of Cr(Ⅵ) were as follows: the dosage of adsorbent 2 g/L, pH=4, temperature 35 ℃ and adsorption time 120 min. Under this adsorption condition, the removal rate of Cr(Ⅵ) solution was about 95.5%.
