Abstract: Rapid response photochromic molecules with light-induced isomerization properties under light are promising materials in the areas of photo-switches, anti-faking and super-resolution fluorescence microscopy. For the triarylethylene photochromic materials, poor photochromic properties were detected after doping in polymer films. To solve this problem, a novel fast-responsive photochromic material ethoxycarbonyl modified triarylethene (EF-TrPEF2) was successfully designed and developed. This new photochromic material with simple chemical structure exhibits fast photochromic behavior in solution, solid state and polymer film. In addition, due to the existence of ethyl ester groups, these photochromic compounds have excellent photochromic properties in polymer films. According to the scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis, EF-TrPEF2 could be uniformly dispersed in PMMA film due to the good polymer compatibility of the ethoxycarbonyl groups. Therefore, these triarylethene derivatives with simple molecular structure have great application potential in the field of fabrication of photochromic polymer films.
