Abstract: High purity Ti2AlC powder was prepared by self-propagating high temperature method. The Cu coated Ti2AlC powder was synthesized by electroless plating method, and Cu source was provided by CuSO4·5H2O. After electroless plating copper, ceramic particles were mixed with Al powder.Ti2AlC ceramic reinforced Al matrix materials were fabricated by hot-pressing sintering. The results show that Ti2AlC has autocatalytic effect, uniform and stable nano Cu coating can be obtained without any surface pretreatment. The reinforcement phase plays an effective role in binding Al matrix. According to X-ray diffraction analysis, the main phases of Cu-coated Ti2AlC ceramic reinforced Al matrix materials were Al, Ti2AlC and Al2Cu.The Al2Cu can bridge Al matrix and Ti2AlC ceramic. After the Cu coating was introduced, the shear resistance of the compo-sites was improved by 65.7%.
