Comprehensive Utilization and Development Prospect of Steel Slag Resources

Abstract: China is a large steel production country. With the rapid economic development, the demand for steel is increasing. Every year, more than 100 million tons of steel slag is produced. At present, the biggest problem we are facing is the low comprehensive utilization rate of steel slag, which is only about 30%, and there is still a big gap between it and developed countries. Especially in the aspects of road backfilling and preparation of steel slag cement, which consume a lot of steel slag. This article introduces the composition, mineral phase, physical properties of steel slag and the differences in composition under different treatment conditions. The main domestic treatment processes for steel slag are briefly described, among which the commonly used methods are cold abandonment method, hot splash method, water quenching method, roller method and wind quenching method. Briefly describe the problems existing in the process of steel slag processing, the most important of which is how to improve the stability and gel activity of steel slag. Based on the basic characteristics of steel slag, the comprehensive utilization of domestic and foreign steel slag resources in metallurgical production, building materials production, agricultural engineering, steel slag cement and preparation of new materials are discussed. Starting from the actual comprehensive utilization of steel slag, in view of the shortcomings of domestic steel slag treatment, we look forward to the future development direction of steel slag.
