Abstract: The biggest disadvantage of alkaline aqueous aluminum-air battery is parasitic hydrogen evolution reaction. Therefore, it is crucial to find an effective electrolyte additive to inhibit the self-corrosion of aluminum anode. In this work, the effects of different concentrations of dodecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (cationic surfactant 1231) quaternary ammonium salt as acorrosion inhibitor in 4 mol·L-1 NaOH solution on the electrochemical performance and comprehensive discharge performance of Al-0.8Bi alloy anode were investigated. The results showed that the addition of cationic surfactant 1231 can effectively inhibit the hydrogen evolution corrosion of the electrode to make the corrosion pit more uniform at low current density, and effectively improve its energy density, maintaining relatively stable discharge performance.
