Abstract: To investigate the surface topography of steel plate with different corrosion levels, specimens were obtained by the accelerated corrosion tests in a salt spray test chamber and divided into 10 groups according to corrosion ages. The three-dimensional data of the surface topography of the corroded steel specimens are collected by the 3D non-contact profilometers. The fractal and multifractal characteristics of the surface topography of corroded steel specimens were calculated by differential box-counting method, and the variation of fractal characteristics with corrosion age were analyzed. The results show the fractal dimension D gradually increases and then exhibits an undulating change with the increase of corrosion time;the multifractal spectral width Δα fluctuates and Δf rises in the law of “continuous increase-decrease”.
