Abstract: Phosphate glasses with various Li2O/K2O ratios were synthesized using the melt quenching technique. The thermo-optical properties of the glasses were studied. The temperature coefficients of refractive index (dn/dT) of the glasses were measured using interferometric technique and the thermo-optical coefficients were calculated. The results showed that with the increasing of Li2O/K2O ratios, mixed alkali effect could be observed on the glass transition temperature (Tg), softening temperature (Tf) and thermal expansion coefficient (α). Meanwhile, the thermo-optical coefficient (dS/dT) increased monotonously with the increase of Li2O content. The optimized value of thermo-optical coefficient with 0.08×10-6/K was obtained with Li2O/K2O ratio at 9∶6. Results show that a phosphate glass with zero thermal distortion can be obtained.
