Abstract: Bone graft materials which can induce and promote the bone regeneration have always been applied to replace damaged parts of the bone. Among these bone graft materials, bioactive glass is one sort of bioactive materials with high biological activity, biocompatibility and biodegradability. However, because of its fragility, breaking tenacity and low mechanical strength compared with normal bone tissue, there remains limitations when applying bioactive glass for repairment of long load-bearing and large area bone defect. And the current article focuses on deve-lopment and perspectives to improve the mechanical property and osteogenesis bioactivity of bioactive glass including regulating the component of it, recombining with other materials and improving the preparation technology.
