| Effect of Er on Microstructure and Properties of in-situ ZrB2/A356.2 Composites |

Abstract The ZrB2/A356.2 composites were synthesized via chemistry melt in situ reactions, the effects of ZrB2and Er on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the composites were investigated. The results demonstrated that the addition of ZrB2could refine the α-Al grains and eutectic silicon slightly, while Er could refine the α-Al grains significantly and have a good modification effect on eutectic silicon, which can improve the mechanical properties of the composites effectively. The optimum addition levels for refinement and modification lay at 0.10wt%, the mechanical properties of the composites increased most significantly.
