Abstract Na₃Gd_2-x-y(BO₃)₃∶ xTb³⁺,yEu³⁺ phosphors were prepared by a high-temperature solid state reaction method. The phase composition, morphology, luminescence properties and energy transition of the phosphors were analyzed. The results show that the Na₃Gd_2-x(BO₃)₃∶xTb³⁺ phosphors can be efficiently stimulated by UV and near-UV light. Under 368 nm excitation, the best doping amount of Tb³⁺ is x=0.04 and the emission light is green.With the doping of Eu³⁺ in Na₃Gd_1.96(BO₃)₃∶0.04Tb³⁺,Tb³⁺ acts as an efficient sensitizer,which could enhance the emission intensity of Eu³⁺ by transferring absorbed excitation energy through dipole-dipole interaction mechanism. The energy transfer efficiency increases with the increase of the Eu³⁺. The emission intensity of Eu³⁺ increases and the emission intensity of Tb³⁺ decreases, leading to the multi-color emission tunability of Na₃Gd_1.96-y-(BO₃)₃∶0.04Tb³⁺,yEu³⁺ phosphors, and the emission color varies from green to orange.
