Abstract This paper introduces some current design methods for metastable β-titanium alloys including alloy element method, molybdenum equivalency, d electronic alloy design and e/a electron concentration methods. In this paper, the research progress of deformation mechanism in metastable β-titanium alloy, such as slip, deformation twinning and stress-induced phase transformation, is summarized, and the relationship between deformation mechanisms and mechanical properties of β-titanium alloy are summarized. Finally, the effects of different factors on the deformation mechanism are discussed, including the β-phase stability, deformation processes, grain orientation/sizes and the second phase.

About author:: Jiakun Yang graduated from the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University with a bachelor's degree in engineering in June 2019. He is now a first-year graduate student in the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University, and works under the guidance of professor Jinyu Zhang. The current main research area is high-strength titanium alloy.
Jinyu Zhang is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University. He graduated from Lanzhou University of Technology with a bachelor degree in metallic materials in July 2005, and obtained a master degree and a doctor degree from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2008 and 2011, respectively. Published more than 50 SCI papers as the first/corresponding author, including 16 papers in Acta Materialia and 6 papers in International Journal of Plasticity.
