Abstract The application of phosphonamide flame retardants in thermosetting resin (epoxy resin), thermoplastic resin (polylactic acid, polyamide and polypropylene), polyurethane elastomer, cotton fabric, rubber and other polymers in the past five years was reviewed. The flame-retardant properties of the materials with or without adding phosphonamide flame retardant were compared, and the flame-retardant mechanism of phosphonamide flame retardant in different materials were expounded. Some problems about the use of phosphonamide flame retardants were put forward and the future research and application prospects of phosphonamide flame retardants were prospected.
