Abstract The occurrence of fire accidents has brought many damages. Common commercially available fire warning sensors show the disadvantages including low warning responsibility and being easy to damage, and thus the research and development of new early fire warning sensors is essential. In recent years, a new type of early fire warning sensor, based on the resistance change of graphene oxide (GO) induced by the reduction of GO under high temperature or flame exposure, has attracted great attention. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive review on the research progress in GO-based thermo-resistance sensors used for early fire warning based on research papers published recently. First, the working principle of GO-based early fire warning sensors is briefly described. Then, the GO-based early fire warning sensors are classified into two types, GO-containing bulk materials and materials coated with GO, based on their preparation methods and the distribution of GO in mate-rials, and their development timeline and latest advancements are introduced. In addition, the practical applications of GO-based early fire war-ning sensors for different needs and in different places are introduced based on their specific performances. Finally, a summary of the current research and a future perspective in the development of GO-based early fire warning sensors are provided.
