Abstract In this study, the preparation process of ZrO₂ bioceramic slurry with low viscosity and high solids loading for direct ink writing was studied, the effects of dispersant and pH on the rheological properties were investigated, and printability of ceramic slurries with different dispersant content were analyzed. The results show that zirconia ceramic slurries with 6% sodium polyacrylate and 8.5 pH exhibited suitable printability for direct ink writing. The green sample was sintered at 1 500 ℃ for 2 h, the Vickers hardness, relative density and the fracture toughness of ZrO₂ bioceramic are 13.5 GPa, 4.2 MPa·m^1/2 and 97.7%, respectively. In vitro cell experiments showed that ZrO₂ denture fabricated by direct ink writing have a good biocompatibility. Compared with other processes, it is found that ZrO₂ bioceramics by direct ink writing can meet the physical and biological performance requirements of human oral ceramic denture implants.
