| Preparation of Oil Fume Ink with Specific Optical Properties by Adjusting thePrecursor |

Abstract The oil fume ash with specific optical properties was successfully prepared by adjusting the raw material contents of the traditional ash-making precursor. The structure, morphology and optical properties of the oil fume ash were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy (UV-Vis), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and fluorescence spectroscopy (PL). The results indicated that there was no significant difference between the ash prepared by the combustion of oil mixed with tetrabutyl titanate (Ti-ash) and the ordinary ash in their appearances and microscopics, and both ashes were nanoscale amorphous carbon. The specific surface area of Ti-ash was about 83.7 m2/g, and its grain size was about 20 nm. Ti-ash was negatively charged in aqueous solution and the zeta potential was about -18.7 mV. However, FTIR spectrum indicated that there was a characteristic absorption peak at 608 cm-1 for Ti-ash, and the PL spectrum suggested a characteristic luminescence peak at 480 nm. It indicated that adjusting precursor preparation of oil fume ash can endow specific optical properties to oil fume ash, and realized non-destructive testing. Non-destructive testing can be used not only in modern art creation, but also in anti-counterfeiting, repairing and testing processes. Adjusting the raw material contents of the traditional ink-making precursor enlarged the application field of ink and had potential artistic and cultural value.

| About author:: Qing Lin received his Ph. D. degree in materials science from Nanjing University of Technology in Sep. 2006—Jan. 2011. He was appointed to Wenzhou Medical Collage as research associate in Jul. 2011—Nov. 2011. Since Dec. 2011, he has been a lecturer at the School of Material Engineering, Jinling Institute of Technology. He has published more than 16 journal papers as the first author, applied 9 national invention patents and 4 of them were authorized.
