Abstract Graphene has become an ideal reinforcement because of its unique two-dimensional structure, high mechanical properties, excellent electrical and thermal conductivity. When graphene is introduced into copper matrix, high performance copper composites are expected to be prepared by fully exerting the synergistic effect of graphene and copper. At present, the comprehensive properties of graphene reinforced copper matrix composites have been significantly improved compared with those of pure copper, however, preparation technology and stability problems still restrain its enhancement of overall performance and practical application. This review offers a retrospection of the research efforts with respect to the preparation technology, microstructure and properties of graphene reinforced copper matrix composites, and especially discusses the effective dispersion of graphene, the modification of graphene-copper interface, and the design of graphene configuration. Meanwhile, the current challenges and future directions of graphene reinforced copper matrix composites are proposed.

About author:: Xiaofei Ding received her B.S. degree in Ocean University of China in 2015. She is currently pursuing her M.S. degree at State Key Laboratory of Metal Matrix Composites, Shanghai Jiao Tong University under the supervision of Prof. Tongxiang Fan. Her research has focused on copper matrix composites.Tongxiang Fan received his joint Ph.D. degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Osaka University. After one-year postdoctoral research at Japan Science and Technology Department, he is currently a full professor in Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He undertook funds including the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Program for New Century excellent Talents in University, Fok Ying Tung Education Fund, Major Project on Basic research of Shanghai, and Nano-research Program of Shanghai. He is appointed as director of CMRS, member of the committee of Material Science and engineering in NFSOC, and reviewers of various domestic and foreign periodicals. His research interests are functional metal matrix composites and bio-inspired functional materials. In recent years, representative papers have been published as follows: Prog. Mater. Sci.、Adv.
