Abstract In recent years, with the discovery of single-layer graphene, two-dimensional (2D) materials have gradually attracted people's attention. Among them, two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have been widely studied and achieved many results due to their unique structure and photoelectric properties. Platinum disulfide (PtS2), a two-dimensional material, has attracted extensive attentions because of its adjustable band gap (0.25 eV in the bulk layer to 1.75 eV in the monolayer) and high mobility (1 000 cm2·V-1·s-1). In this paper, the atomic structure and other basic characteristics of PtS2 are introduced. The main preparation methods of PtS2, such as mechanical stripping and chemical vapor deposition (CVD), are summarized. The physical properties of PtS2, such as energy band structure and lattice vibration, are analyzed. Finally, the existing problems of PtS2 are analyzed and discussed, and its further development in the future is prospected.
