Abstract Ternary metal oxides have good material properties, which have great research and application value in the synthesis of various functional nanomaterials, such as catalysis, photoelectricity, electrical devices and gas sensors. The microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis process combines the advantages of traditional hydrothermal method and microwave, which could achieve a short period of high temperature and pressure in the closed reaction system to obtain products with complete grain size, controllable particle size and less agglomeration. In this paper, research progresses on microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis of ternary metal oxides functional materials are reviewed, including photocatalytic materials, optical materials, gas sensitive materials, magnetic materials and electrochemical materials. The key to give full play to the properties of these materials is morphology control. The properties of the materials can be further improved by the modification of the materials. These studies are important for expanding and improving the potential applications of the ternary metal oxides synthesized by microwave-assisted hydrothermal.

About author:: Yuling Lu, master's degree, major of material proces-sing engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, Yangzhou University. Received a bachelor's degree in School of Mechanical Engineering, Yangzhou University in June 2020. The main research direction is semiconductor functional materials.Chao Zhang received his B.E. degree in machinery from Chongqing University in 2003 and received his Ph.D. degree in material processing engineering from School of Mechanical Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2009. After four-year postdoctoral research at Mons University, Belgium, he is currently a full professor in Yangzhou University. His research interest is thermal sprayed function and structure coatings.
