Abstract In this paper, the surface of hollow glass microspheres (HGMs) was plated with nano-copper by electroless plating. The performance of photocatalytic degradation of copper-plated HGMs was studied by simulating organic dyes by methyl orange (MO). We made a successful effort to select the appropriate photocatalytic degradation system though multiple sets of experiments, including the optimal initial concentration of methyl orange and the best copper content. Finally, a mechanism for the degradation of methyl orange by copper-plated HGMs was proposed.
