Abstract In all metal structure materials, Mg-Li alloy has many excellent properties such as low density, high plasticity and high specific stiffness. Howe-ver, the low absolute strength limits the engineering application of Mg-Li alloy. This paper systematically summarizes the strengthening methods of Mg-Li alloy at home and abroad in recent years, including alloying, processing deformation, heat treatment, composite strengthening and so on, also describes and compares the strengthening mechanism. Finally, the paper points out shortcomings of early researches on the properties of Mg-Li alloy, and prospects the future research on the strengthening behavior of Mg- Li alloy.

About author:: Xiang Cai, male, born in 1994. From September 2012 to June 2019, he obtained bachelor’s degree in metal material engineering (corrosion and protection) and master’s degree in material science and engineering from Jiangsu University of Science and Technology. He was selected for the national master’s scholarship in 2018 and the “excellent master’s graduates” in 2019. His research topics mainly include the advanced light metal materials developed by the state, participating in the advanced processing technology of related alloys and basic theoretical research of organization and performance control, including general projects funded by the national natural science foundation.
Yanxin Qiao, male, born in 1980. He is a master’s tutor at Jiangsu University of Science and Technology. He posted one National Natural Science Foundation project, one National Natural Science Foundation Youth Project, one Jiangsu Natural Science Fund, and school-enterprise joint projects. He has published more than 50 journal papers, more than 40 SCI papers, and 3 Chinese invention patents were authorized. Among his papers, electrochemical behaviour of high nitrogen stainless steel in acidic solutions was cited 90 times in a single article. His team research interests are the failure behavior of materials under environmental mechanics and chemical interaction; the corrosion electrochemical behavior of materials; the corrosion behavior and regularity of welded joint materials; the biological corrosion of metal materials and so on.
