A Survey to the Research Advances in Skin Dressings |

Abstract Skin is the largest organ in human body, and play a crucial role as barrier. When human skin is damaged, skin dressings are usually used to repair the wound. It is of great significance for repair of human skin injury and production of medicine and cosmetics to develop skin dressings that can imitate normal human skin. With the rapid development of skin dressings, various types of skin dressings continue to emerge. In this article, the current research status of skin dressings is elaborated, including wound dressings and artificial skin in terms of their type, structure and property. In addition, four types of skin dressings, namely traditional type, biological type, synthetic type, and composite skin dressings are introduced. The composition and features of the above four types of skin dressings are discussed and compared in detail. Besides, the types of commercial artificial skin is briefly introduced as well. Finally, the future development of skin dressings is proposed.

About author:: Lin Lin received her Master’s Degree in Pharmacy Engineering from Nanjing University in 2015. She worked as research assistant in Advanced Lubricating Materials Laboratory from 2017 to 2018. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in College of Pharmacy, Fudan University. Her research interests are focused around small molecule allosteric modulators of G-protein-coupled receptors.Xiangqiong Zeng received her Master degree in Applied Chemistry in 2003 and Ph.D. degree in Material Science in 2006 from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Then, she worked at Johnson & Johnson consumer group during 2006—2010 as staff scientist on Skin Care technology. From 2011—2015, she was appointed as a tenure track assistant professor at the University of Twente, working on skin tribology. Currently, she is a full professor at Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, Chinese Acade-my of Sciences. Her research interests are functional interface materials for biotribology and aqueous lubrication, including active control of friction and wear by surface and interface design of skin contacting materials and medical devices, by test methodology development with the design of instrument and bio-inspired human tissue model, and by additive and emulsion development for aqueous lubrication. |
