Abstract Graphene is widely used in reinforced metal matrix composite coatings because of its excellent mechanical properties. In this paper, the pre-paration methods of graphene reinforced metal matrix composite coatings and their research progress of different preparation methods are summarized. The influence of graphene on the properties of metal matrix composite coating and its strengthening mechanism in composite mate-rials are summarized. However, the research on the strengthening mechanism of graphene reinforced metal matrix composite coating is relatively rare. The improving research on the strengthening mechanism of graphene in composite coating will help to promote the application of graphene metal matrix composite coating in industrial production.
