Preparation of Magnetic Y/CTS/FA Composite Adsorbents and Its Adsorption to Direct Lake Blue 5B |

Abstract Arare earth doped magnetic composite adsorbent, magnetic Y/CTS/FA was prepared by loading a small amount of chitosan (CTS), rare earth Y (Ⅲ) ions and Fe3O4 on the basis of solid waste fly ash (FA) from coal-fired power plant. The surface morphology and structure of FA and magnetic Y/CTS/FA were characterized by BET, SEM-EDS, XRD, FT-IR and XPS. Taking direct lake blue 5B (DLB 5B) with initial concentration of 2 300 mg/L as the adsorption object, the influence of raw material ratio and reaction conditions on the performance of composite adsorbent and the adsorption mechanism were explored in detail. The results showed that the optimal adsorption property of magnetic Y/CTS/FA to the DLB 5B was obtained with raw material mass ratio m(FA):m(Y (III)):m(CTS):m(Fe3O4)=10:2:2:2 at room temperature, where 2% CTS solution reacted with FA for 120 min to form the CTS/FA gel solution, then it reacted with the Y(III) ions for 30 min to form the Y/CTS/FA gels, Fe3O4 was added to form the final magnetic Y/CTS/FA at last, the adsorption capacity and removal rate of adsorbent to DLB 5B can reached 533 mg/g, 92.7%, respectively. The adsorption behavior of DLB 5B by the adsorbent is in accordance with Langmuir model. In addition, the results of FT-IR and XPS analysis of dye adsorbed by magnetic Y/CTS/FA before and after adsorption showed that the adsorbent to DLB 5B is mainly physical adsorption, and also has chemical adsorption. Magnetic Y/CTS/FA is a kind of environmental friendly adsorbent which has good purification effect on high concentration DLB 5B dye wastewater and can realize effective ash water separation.
