Abstract Amulti-factors L₈(2⁷) orthogonal test scheme with interaction was designed to study the effect of three factors i.e. impact velocity, slurry temperature and sulfuric acid concentration as well as their interaction on erosion wear performance of 304 stainless steel by using a homemade rotary erosion wear tester. Range analysis and variance analysis of orthogonal experimental results were performed to investigate influence of each factor on erosion wear property. Surface morphologies of the samples after erosion wear tests were observed by SEM to analyze erosion wear mechanism. The results show that the order of influence of the parameters on erosive wear properties of 304 stainless steel is ranked as T＞C＞T×C＞V＞V×T×C＞V×T＞V×C. Among these factors, the four namely T, C, T×C as well as V are highly significant factors. The interaction of the three factors (V×T×C) has generally significant effect, other factors are not significant. When multi-factor orthogonal experiment is carried out, the interactions among factors should not be ignored.

He received Ph.D. degree from Huazhong University of Scie-nce and Technology in 2006.His main research fields include theory and protection of friction and wear, corrosion and fracture, manufacturing technology of advanced materials. he has published more than 70 journal papers,applied 30 national invention patents and has won more than 20 national patent.He obtained 5 science and technology progress awards of province and ministry,and performed more than 10 projects,including the National Natural Science Foundation of China (General Program),provincial or ministry level projects.
