Abstract The surface defects of ferric stainless steel are similar to small bumps during grinding. By adjusting the pressure of grinding equipment, the feed speed of stainless steel and the cutting speed of abrasive belt, the effect of surface processing parameters on the surface quality of stainless steel was studied, and characterized by EDX and SEM analysis. The results show that the defects of scratches on stainless steel surface is not caused by abrasive particles uneven on the abrasive belt, abrasive shedding and other impurities in the processing equipment, but caused by the sharp cut of silicon carbide abrasives on the surface of stainless steel when the Cr particles accumulated on the surface of stainless steel are grounded by abrasive belt.
