Preparation of Raney-Ni/Al2O3 Powder Composites by De-alloying of Mechanochemical Synthesized Ni2Al3/Al2O3 Powders |

Abstract Ni2Al3/Al2O3 powder composites were synthesized by mechanochemical reaction of NiO-Al powder mixtures. Phase evolution and structural development during ball milling were investigated by XRD, SEM equipped with EDS. Ni2Al3/Al2O3 were leached in 20% sodium hydroxide solution for 2 h,to obtain Ni/Al2O3 with the grain size of a nano-scale level. The phase composition and the microstructure were studied by XRD and TEM. The results showed that the phase composition of the NiO-Al powder mixtures remained unchanged after 1 h of ball milling. Mechanochemical reaction between NiO and Al powders under the mechanical forces Ni2Al3 and Al2O3 were formed after 3 h of balling. The mechanically activated reaction between NiO and Al occurred in sudden. Ni2Al3/Al2O3 powder composites were formed after 10 h of ball milling. Ni2Al3/Al2O3 powder composites were etched in a 20% sodium hydroxide solution at 70 ℃ for 2 h and Ni/Al2O3 powder composites was obtained.
