Abstract Based on the occupational health, environmental pollution, life safety, and property losses caused by coal mine dust pollution during coal mining, storage, and transportation, this summary discussed the current status of new and efficient dust suppressants and performance testing methods in coal mine dust suppression technology over the past ten years. The latest research results of novel dust suppressants were summarized into four types:environmentally friendly, functional, polymer and microbial. The testing methods of dust suppressants were elaborated from three aspects: macroscopic testing in the laboratory, microscopic testing and on-site application testing. Research shows that, at this stage, the main components of dust suppressants in China are green and environmentally friendly waste materials and high molecular polymers with new characteristics. This type of material is less polluting and has good dust suppression effects. The research and development of dust suppressants in China focuses on optimisation of surfactant selection and proportion, with more complex formulas and preparation processes, while the testing methods are more scientific and realistic by using self-made coal settling experimental devices and materials studio software. In the future, the development of novel and efficient dust suppressants should focus on the composite development of environmentally friendly dust suppressants, the improvement of dust suppressant performance testing system, so as to enhance the level of clean coal production and promote the protection of occupational health in mines.
