Abstract Phthalonitrile resin, as a class of thermosetting resins capped with the phthalonitrile group, exhibits excellent thermal stability, chemical resis-tance, flame retardancy, and low dielectric constant due to the unique arylheterocyclic network structure formed after curing. Such optimal properties endow it with great potential for applications in many fields, such as aerospace, shipbuilding, and electronic packaging. However, the crucial conditions of the manufacturing process have become the major obstacle to the further development and application of phthalonitrile resin and its composites. Therefore, the improvement of the processing technology of phthalonitrile resin is highly demanded. This summary reviews the current research progress of phthalonitrile-based prepreg, and the influence of various modification methods, such as molecular structure design, blending, addition of fillers and pre-polymerization, on the properties of the prepregs is discussed in depth. At the same time, the future prospects of phthalonitrile prepregs have been put forward.
