Hong Kong, December 14, 2023 — The Inaugural meeting of the Materials Reports: Solidwaste and Ecomaterials's editorial board convened on December 14, 2023, from 16:30 to 18:00. The meeting took place both physically at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Room ZS1215, Z Block, and virtually via Zoom Meeting. Esteemed experts in attendance included Professor Dongmin Wang, Professor Wouter Schroeyers, and Professor Zuhua Zhang, serving as Editors in Chief. The event also welcomed over twenty experienced editorial board members and more than ten young editorial board members from universities and research institutions worldwide. Additionally, Professor Christopher Cheeseman from Imperial College London graciously accepted the role of the journal consultant. The distinguished experts engaged in fruitful exchanges, sharing insights and perspectives on the strategic objectives and future trajectory of the journal.
The meeting, expertly hosted by Dr. Shen Peiliang from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, provided a comprehensive overview of the preliminary preparations. Discussions delved into various aspects, including the positioning of the Materials Reports: Solidwaste and Ecomaterials, its strategic aims, main scope, editorial board's working mechanism and responsibilities, and future work plans.

Dr. Shen Peiliang remarked, "This meeting has been instrumental in consolidating our efforts and setting a clear direction for the journal. The in-depth discussions have laid the groundwork for a successful launch."
Professor Dongmin Wang, Chairman of the Solid Waste Subcommittee of the Chinese Ceramic Society and Professor at China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing), expressed warm welcomes and sincere gratitude to the attendees in his opening address at the inaugural editorial board meeting of Materials Reports: Solidwaste and Ecomaterials. In his address, Professor Wang underscored the significance of strengthening international academic collaboration in the fields of solid waste utilization and green ecological materials, particularly in the face of multiple challenges confronting global environmental protection and sustainable human development. The convening of the Materials Reports: Solidwaste and Ecomaterials editorial board, according to Professor Wang, represents a collective effort by Chinese experts and scholars in the field of solid waste and ecological materials to address these significant challenges.

Professor Zuhua Zhang from Tongji University summarized the preliminary preparations for the journal, elaborating on its scope, goals, and current status, laying the foundation for the future establishment of the journal. Director Bo Yu of the Materials Reports provided strategic plans to attract high-quality submissions for the first and second issues.
|Some online participants made suggestions for the development of the journal
During the discussion session, participants engaged in lively debates and reached consensus on topics such as the journal's international reputation, development direction, key areas for submissions, editorial board working mechanisms, and more. Suggestions were made by attending members, as follow.
a) Professor Tingting Zhang from Dalian University of Technology suggested an increase in the inclusion of high-quality review articles in the initial publications and a subsequent adjustment to elevate the quantity of research-oriented articles.
b) Associate Professor Kim Hung Mo from the University of Malaya recommended inviting leading researchers within the industry to contribute in the early publications and encouraged broader international submissions through participation in various global conferences for increased recognition.
c) Professor Christian Paglia from Scuola universitaria professionale della Svizzera italiana, Professor Weihao Lee from Taipei University of Technology, and Professor Ze Liu from China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing) proposed diversifying the content beyond laboratory research, encompassing the latest applied developments.
d) Professor Yamei Zhang from Southeast University suggested involving editorial board members in the early stages of reviewer selection to clarify the goals and scope of the new journal.
e) Professor Christopher Cheeseman advised the journal to consider shorter yet impactful articles to facilitate quick access to valuable information for readers.

Professor Dongmin Wang conveyed his heartfelt hope that, through the collaborative efforts of all editorial board members, the journal would undoubtedly make outstanding contributions to the global utilization of solid waste resources and the application of ecological materials.
