| Advances in Constructing High Performance Polyamide Composite Membrane Based on Interlayer Strategy |

Abstract Thin-film composite (TFC) membranes with polyamide layers as selective separation layers have been widely studied in desalination and water reuse. Constructing interlayer between porous substrate membrane and polyamide layer is an efficient strategy to overcome the trade-off effect between permeability and selectivity intypical TFC membrane. Both organic materials and nanomaterials can form stable interlayers, which can effectively regulate the interfacial polymerization process by changing the physicochemical properties of the reaction surface. Interlayer-based TFC membrane can significantly reduce the thickness of the polyamide layer to improve the permeability while ensuring high selectivity. In this paper, the common methods of interlayer construction are discussed, and the mechanisms of interlayer influencing interfacial polymerization process and polyamide layer structure are systematically analyzed by summarizing the research progress of various interlayer materials. Finally, this paper summarizes the challenges of the interlayer strategy and provides an outlook on the research prospects.
