Effects of ZnO and MgO on Moisture Absorption Properties of Aluminum Phosphate Adhesives |

Abstract Aluminum phosphate adhesive has many advantages, such as low curing temperature, non-toxic, high bond strength, stable structure at high temperature, etc. It can bond metals and ceramics, and can also be used as a refractory and composite body. It has been widely used in construction and aerospace fields. In this paper, aluminum phosphate adhesive was prepared by H3PO4 and Al(OH)3, ZnO or MgO was added as the curing agent, the addition amount of ZnO and MgO was adjusted at 1%~5%. The effect of the amount of curing agent on the properties of phosphate adhesives was studied. Alumina fiber thermal insulation materials were prepared by using the modified aluminum phosphate adhesives and alumina fiber. The curing temperature of the adhesives was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The structure of heat insulation material was analyzed by scanning electron microscope. The results showed that the addition of ZnO and MgO could reduce the curing temperature of adhesive and promote the cross-linking curing of adhesives. By adding 5wt%ZnO and 5wt%MgO could reduce the curing temperature of phosphate adhesives from 254 ℃ to 172 ℃ and 161 ℃, respectively. Among them, by adding 5%MgO can reduce the hygroscopic weight gain ratio of adhesive from 13.5% to 6.3%.
