Abstract Non-metallic inclusions in steel have an important impact on the processing and service performance of steel. The accurate prediction and characterization of inclusions can provide direction and guidance for optimizing and controlling the shape and properties of inclusions. For the past few years, because of the continuous development of computers and mathematical physical models, the prediction model of inclusions in steel has been greatly developed. This review summarizes the research progress of element microsegregation and inclusion generation prediction models during steel solidification and the latest developments in refining-continuous casting coupling prediction models. Finally, a new idea in view of the two-step nucleation theory to predict the precipitation of inclusions during solidification is proposed.

About author:: Jianfeng Wei is a master's student from University of Science and Technology Liaoning. He received his bac-helor of engineering degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Liaoning University of Science and Technology from September 2015 to July 2019. Now he is studying metallurgical engineering in School of Materials and Metallurgy, University of Science and Technology Liaoning.Guocheng Wang is professor and doctoral supervisor of University of Science and Technology Liaoning.2013/07—today, Liaoning University of Science and Techno-logy Department of Metallurgical Engineering professor, first put forward in the field of international metallurgy and demonstrate the solid generated in the melt metal secondary nucleation theory, the secondary nucleation theory and first principles calculation prediction application Yu Gangzhong inclusion/precipitated phase formation of the non-equilibrium process, reveals an atomic scale-molecules-clusters-particle nucleation and growth of behavior;A new type of annular aggregation of alumina inclusions in high alumina steels was found by the disor-dered regulation and refinement technology of inclusions in steel.The new process of high efficiency dephosphorization and less slag smelting with multiphase distribution is applied in 80 t converter.The non-damage extraction and analysis technology of inclusions/precipitates in steel has been applied in many research institutes and iron and steel enterprises.He has presided over more than 10 projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China, provincial level and enterprises.He has published more than 50 papers as the first or corresponding author, including more than 30 SCI indexed papers.He has reviewed manuscripts for Scientific Reports, MMTB, Steel Research International, Journal of Iron and Steel Research International, Steel and other domestic and foreign journals.
