Abstract Deep penetration TIG welding (DP-TIG welding) is a new type of TIG welding.The welding method has the advantages of large welding depth, high welding speed and high deposition rate.The effects of different welding heat input on the microstructure and mechanical properties of stainless steel plates with different thickness were studied by using appropriate welding parameters.The results show that there is a small amount of dendritic ferrite on the austenitic matrix.The low temperature impact toughness of the weld decreases with the increase of welding heat input, but the low temperature impact toughness of the weld zone is better than that of the heat affected zont.The tensile strength and hardness of welds do not change obviously with the increase of welding heat input.
