Preparation and Characterization of Fish Scale Activated Carbon byPhosphoric Acid |

Abstract Using fish scales as raw materials, activated carbon with high specific surface area and a large number of micropores was prepared by phosphoric acid activation. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Boehm titration were used to characterize the structural characteristics and surface composition of fish scale carbon. The results showed that the yield of activated carbon was 26.74% when 85% phosphoric acid was used and impregnation ratio is 2 (phosphoric acid and raw material mass ratio of fish scale) was activated under 550 ℃ for 1.0 h. The adsorption value of methylene blue was 213 mg/g, the adsorption value of iodine was 936.46 mg/g, the specific surface area was 498.162 cm2/g, the total pore volume was 0.266 cm3/g and the average pore diameter was 2.138 nm. Boehm titration has a total acidity of 1.678 mmol/g and a total alkalinity of 0.433 mmol/g. Its surface contains amphoteric functional groups. Among them, acid functional groups are hydroxyl, carboxylic acid group, lactone group and other oxygen-containing functional groups and phosphorous functional groups, while alkaline functional groups are amide, lactam, pyridine type and pyrrole type nitrogen-containing functional groups.
