Abstract Sample pretreatment is an important part of the biological sample analysis process. In order to remove the interference of matrix and enrich trace substances to be tested, appropriate and efficient pretreatment is usually required. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), composed of metal ions and organic ligands, is a new type of multi-functional porous crystal material emerging in recent years. It has been attracted in the field of analytical chemistry due to its high specific surface area, large porosity, good thermal stability and diverse functions. This review mainly summarizes the preparation methods of MOFs, summarizes the application of MOFs as a new adsorbent in the pretreatment of biological samples, and also discusses the shortcomings and development prospects of MOFs in the pretreatment of biological samples.
