Abstract Ahot melt adhesive for textile products with high strength and low viscosity was synthesized via melt blending method and taking ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) as matrix. The structure and thermal stability of the obtained EVA based hot melt adhesive were characterized by infrared spectrum (FTIR) and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The relationship between tackifying resin types and peel strength of hot melt adhesives was investigated. Furthermore, the impact of various conditions on the properties(such as melt index, melt viscosity, hardness and bonding effect to laminated textiles etc.) of EVA based hot melt adhesive was analyzed. The results indicated that the EVA based hot melt adhesive showed superior peeling strength on polyester fabric, under the colophony (as a tackifying resin) and EVA mass ratio of 16∶25, and the antioxidant input amount of 0.8% of EVA. The addition of paraffin wax could improve the viscosity of the EVA based hot melt adhesive. In addition, under the condition that the mixing temperature reached 140 ℃ and mixing time was 25 min, the prepared EVA based hot melt adhesive presented high glass transition temperature (Tg=49.8 ℃), favorable melt index (MI=18.834 g/10 min), and satisfactory peeling strength (34.1 N) for laminated polyester fabric, which met the demands of laminated textiles.
