The Mechanism of Strengthening Shear Strength of Al-Li Alloy Plates by Anodizing |

Abstract In order to reveal the mechanism of the greatly enhanced shear strength of the Al-Li alloy joints after phosphoric acid anodizing treatment, the Al-Li alloys were mechanical polished and anodized in phosphoric acid respectively. And different analytical instruments were used to analyze the Al-Li alloy surface, including micro-structure, roughness, surface wettability and surface free energy. The results showed that mechanical grinding was only leaved crisscrossed of grooves on the surface of the Al-Li alloy plate. However, the surface of the Al-Li alloy was appeared micro-roughened of porous membrane after the anodizing process in phosphoric acid, which increased the contact area between the adhesive layer and the alloy surface, as well as improved the uniformity of the adhesive distribution; the surface free energy of Al-Li alloy was improved obviously after phosphoric acid anodizing, which improved the wettability of the adhesion interface. The adhesion shear strength greatly increased for the co-effect of the two factors.
