Technological Advances in the Removal of Heavy Metal Ions from Wastewater |

Abstract The discharge of wastewater containing heavy-metal ions is the main source of water pollution, which has caused serious water resource crisis. Therefore, the preparation of new materials with an adequate adsorption effect, simple operation, and recoverability has always attracted research interest. In recent years, many methods, such as precipitation, membrane filtration, adsorption, photocatalysis, and microfluidics, have been reported for the removal of heavy-metal ions from wastewater. This paper comprehensively details the research status and development trend of several common heavy-metal-ion wastewater treatment technologies and outlines the shortcomings of each technology in practical application. It aims to provide a useful basis for the development of economical and efficient new wastewater treatment technologies.
