Abstract As a new type of green energy material, metal deuteride has excellent deuterium storage performance, and its importance and widespread application in the energy field have been more and more outstanding. Under the high speed of social and practical applications' development, metal deuteride energy materials will play a more and more important role in the country's energy strategy. The metal deuterides is usually prepared by direct compounding in a high-temperature environment. It is highly susceptible to O₂, CO₂, H₂O, etc in the air atmosphere, especially the high humidity (more than 60%) air atmosphere because of the very active surface chemistry. It can cause changes in the performance of metal deuterides, which may cause safety hazards in severe cases, and the scope of use is limited. At present, a variety of metal deuteride materials such as lithium deuteride, titanium deuteride, zirconium deuteride and cerium deuteride have been prepared successively and have certain applications. This article summarizes the research progress of several common metal deuterides preparation and application according to the cha-racteristics, classification and applications of metal deuterides, summarizes the research status and progress of metal deuterides, and puts forward prospects. The purpose is to summarize data and reference for the research and application of deuterated metals.

About author:: Nianhua Li received his B.S. degree in electronic packaging technology from Beijing Institute of Technology in June 2018. He is a postgraduate of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Beijing Institute of Technology, conducting research under the guidance of professor Jiping Liu. At present, the main research fields are the preparation and application of metal deuteride.
Jiping Liu is an expert in energetic and flame retardant materials. He is currently a professor at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Beijing Institute of Technology. From 1968 to 1995, he served in active service in the Chinese People's Liberation Army and served as an engineer, senior engineer, and senior engineer with improved salary. In 1992, he enjoyed the special government allowance of the State Council. In 1992, he was awarded the “Young and Middle-aged Scientific Experts with Outstanding Contributions” by the Ministry of Personnel of the People's Republic of China. In the meantime, he was admitted to the National University of Defense Technology in 1992 to study for a docto-rate. In 1995, he introduced talents to the School of Chemical Engineering and Materials, Beijing Institute of Technology, and has served as a resear-cher, professor, and executive deputy director and deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Flame Retardant Materials Research. In 1996, he was named a cross-century talent of the Ministry of Education.
