Abstract In this work, carbon nitride materials have been successfully improved by a simple top-down method and thin-layer graphene composites (CoOx/PCN/RGO) have been prepared by introducing graphene oxide, showing good bifunctional electrocatalytic activity (ΔE=0.95 V) and stability in the oxygen reduction and oxygen evolution reactions. The zinc-air battery with the CoOx/PCN/RGO composites exhibited greater charge/discharge performance than Pt/C+Ir/C which are mainly attributed to the structure of the thin layer, the large surface area and the fully exposed active sites.
