Influence of Eu3+ Doping on Luminescence Properties of Na3Gd2(BO3)3∶Tb3+ and the Relevant Energy Transfer Mechanism |

Abstract Na3Gd2-x-y(BO3)3∶ xTb3+,yEu3+ phosphors were prepared by a high-temperature solid state reaction method. The phase composition, morphology, luminescence properties and energy transition of the phosphors were analyzed. The results show that the Na3Gd2-x(BO3)3∶xTb3+ phosphors can be efficiently stimulated by UV and near-UV light. Under 368 nm excitation, the best doping amount of Tb3+ is x=0.04 and the emission light is green.With the doping of Eu3+ in Na3Gd1.96(BO3)3∶0.04Tb3+,Tb3+ acts as an efficient sensitizer,which could enhance the emission intensity of Eu3+ by transferring absorbed excitation energy through dipole-dipole interaction mechanism. The energy transfer efficiency increases with the increase of the Eu3+. The emission intensity of Eu3+ increases and the emission intensity of Tb3+ decreases, leading to the multi-color emission tunability of Na3Gd1.96-y-(BO3)3∶0.04Tb3+,yEu3+ phosphors, and the emission color varies from green to orange.
