Research on Performance Improvement of Airport Pavement Concrete |

Abstract In order to reduce the effect of deicing agent on the service life of airport pavements, polypropylene fiber, recycled rubber granules and slag sulfoaluminate cement were applied separately or together to improve the mechanical properties and impermeability of the cement concrete. The compressive strength test, flexural strength test and chloride ion resistance test were conducted to investigate the effects of materials on the impermeability and mechanical properties of airport pavement concrete. The experimental results show that fiber can only improve the mechanical properties of ordinary cement concrete;however, it is not suitable to be used with slag sulfoaluminate cement concrete and also has no significant effect on the impermeability. Rubber granules have little effect on the mechanical properties of ordinary cement airport pavement concrete but significantly reduce the early strength of slag sulfoaluminate cement concrete. The formwork cannot be removed for 48 h after pouring the concrete, but rubber granules have no significant effect on the 28 d concrete mechanical properties. Slag sulfoaluminate cement can significantly improve the 28 d concrete mechanical strength and impermeability. Without considering the early compressive strength, the use of slag sulfoaluminate cement can significantly improve the mechanical properties and durability of airport pavement concrete.
