Abstract The rapid advancement of modern aerospace has rendered solid lubricating coatings with stable wide-temperature performance a critical technical bottleneck for ensuring the reliability of core friction components. Bonded solid lubricating coatings, known for their cost-effectiveness, demonstrate considerable potential for enhancing the lubrication and wear resistance of high-temperature moving parts across a broad temperature range. In this study, a high-temperature lubricating coating was designed and prepared using a sol-gel method based on a Si/Al composite sol. The structure and thermal stability of the composite sol were characterized. The influence of the Al/Si molar ratio (0.1—0.5) on the coating microstructure and tribological performance was comprehensively evaluated. High-temperature friction and wear tests combined with worn surface analysis, were conducted to clarify the lubrication failure mechanism of the coating over a broad temperature range. The results indicate that the prepared coatings exhibit favorable tribological properties, maintaining an average friction coefficient below 0.25 alongside excellent wear resis-tance from 25 to 500 ℃. The coating with an Al/Si molar ratio of 0.3 achieved the lowest friction coefficient and wear rate, demonstrating optimal comprehensive performance. This study may provide a novel technical approach and theoretical foundation for overcoming the high-temperature performance limitations of bonded solid lubricating coatings.
