Abstract This work systematically investigates the effects of solution temperature (920—960 ℃) and aging temperature (740—820 ℃) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of casting Ti-22Al-24Nb-0.1B alloy, with particular emphasis on the evolution of O phase laths and their correlation with strength-ductility balance. The microstructure was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and mechanical properties were evaluated through tensile tests at both room temperature and 700 ℃. The results indicate that as the solution temperature increases, the volume fraction of O phase laths decreases nonlinearly. Above 940 ℃, the dissolution capacity of the B2 matrix increases significantly, causing a sharp reduction in the O phase fraction from 62.1% to 20.1%. The size of the O phase laths coarsens due to Ostwald ripening between 920—940 ℃, and then slightly decreases from 940—960 ℃ owing to dissolution. With increasing aging temperature, the O phase continues to precipitate, and its volume fraction rises from 55.7% to 70.2%. The size of the O phase refines through recrystallization between 740—780 ℃, and coarsens due to ripening in the 780—820 ℃. In terms of mechanical properties, increasing the solution temperature significantly enhances both room-temperature and high-temperature strength (room-temperature tensile strength increases from 870 MPa to 959.5 MPa, and tensile strength at 700 ℃ improves from 587 MPa to 719 MPa), but its ductility continuously decreases. An optimal balance between strength and ductility is achieved within the aging temperature of 780—820 ℃, with elongation increasing from 6.0% to 7.5% while yield strength remains at 686—692.5 MPa. Fractographic analysis reveals that increasing solution temperature leads to a transition in fracture mode from brittle cleavage to quasi-cleavage. The results demonstrate that employing a solution temperature of 930—940 ℃ combined with an aging temperature of 780—820 ℃ enables synergistic optimization of strength and ductility through control of the size and distribution of O phase laths, thereby providing critical processing guidelines and theoretical support for the application of this alloy in aerospace heat-resistant components.
