Abstract In response to the global freshwater shortage, this work proposes to use seawater to replace freshwater to prepare concrete that meets performance requirements. The ultra-high lime aluminum method was used to pretreat seawater to remove chlorine, and the best conditions for chloride ion removal were explored. The influence of multi-mineral blends such as fly ash, coal gangue and metakaolin on the mechanical properties, anti-chloride ion penetration, and chloride ion curing ability of concrete before and after seawater pretreatment was systematically studied, and the mechanism of action was investigated. The results show that when the reaction time is 2.5 h and the ratio of chlorine deletion agent n(Ca)∶n(Al)∶n(Cl)=3∶2∶1, the chloride ion removal efficiency in seawater reaches 77.6%, achieving the best effect. Concrete mixed with untreated seawater exhibits superior mechanical properties, anti-chloride ion penetration, and chloride ion curing ability, outperforming tap water-mixed concrete and pretreated seawater-mixed concrete. In a single blending system, the anti-chloride ion permeability of mixed concrete before and after seawater pretreatment increases with the increase of dosage;in the compounding system, fly ash and metakaolin have the best synergy, followed by coal gangue and metakaolin combination, while fly ash and coal gangue combination has the weakest improvement effect. Multi-mineral blends mainly improve the chloride ion curing capacity through the dual mechanism of physical adsorption and chemical combination, among which coal gangue is the best, followed by metakaolin.
