Abstract Utilizing waste brick powder(WBP) as the primary raw material, artificial fine aggregate is prepared through cold binding and granulation technology, and the impact of different proportions of WBP, ordinary Portland cement (OPC), fly ash (FA), slag powder (SP), slaked lime (Ca(OH)2), and waste concrete powder (WCP) on the performance characterization of artificial fine aggregate is studied. The results show that the appearance of brick powder artificial fine aggregate (BAFA) is approximately spherical with fewer edges and corners;under the same mixing ratio, the single-particle compressive strength of BAFA under standard curing conditions is greater than that under natural curing;the content of cement has the greatest impact on the single-particle compressive strength, with a maximum strength difference of 16.99 MPa between BAFA with 5% cement content and BAFA with 25% cement content;the optimal mixing ranges for OPC, FA, SP, and Ca(OH)2 are 10%—20%, 5%—10%, 4%—6%, and 5%—15%, respectively, while the mixing ratio of WCP has little effect on BAFA. BAFA prepared using a combination of va-rious powders within the optimal mixing range has a single-particle compressive strength of 21.8 MPa, a saturated surface dry water absorption rate of 10.2%, and a crushing index of 23.98%. Microstructurally, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analyses reveal that BAFA, prepared with an optimized combination of various powders, exhibits uniform elemental distribution, abundant hydration products within the aggregate, low porosity, and high density. These excellent properties indicate that BAFA holds broad application prospects in the field of concrete applications.
