Abstract: The cohesion of basalt fiber (BF) modified asphalt and its adhesion to aggregates are critical factors determining the durability of asphalt mixtures. This work employed molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to construct interfacial models between oxide aggregates and three asphalt systems:SBS-modified, BF-SBS-modified, and BFKH550(silane coupling agent modified fiber)-SBS-modified asphalts. Radial distribution functions (RDF) and adhesion work were calculated to evaluate molecular interactions, while contact angle tests were calculated to validate fiber-asphalt adhesion force. The aggregation characteristics and adhesion properties between BF-SBS and BFKH550-SBS modified asphalts, along with their adhesion to oxide aggregate layers and oxide aggregate layers were investigated at the molecular scale under different temperature conditions. The test results demonstrate that SBS and BFKH550 molecules intertwine within the asphalt matrix, forming a ductile interfacial layer that effectively suppresses fiber debonding. Due to its higher surface energy, BFKH550 demonstrates stronger and more stable interfacial bonding with asphalt. The adhesion strength between the three modified asphalts and oxide aggregates follows the order:CaO>Al2O3>SiO2. At notrmal temperature, BFKH550-SBS-modified asphalt exhibits the highest adhesion work with CaO aggregate (221.67 mJ/m2), representing improvements of 31% and 18% compared to SBS-modified and BF-SBS-modified asphalts, respectively. This indicates that alkaline oxides demonstrate superior adhesion with modified asphalt. The high-performance basalt fiber modification technology developed in this work provides both theoretical foundation for enhancing asphalt pavement durability and technical support for sustainable highway construction.
