Compared to the traditional mechanical, chemical and electrical energy storage, latent heat energy storage features less energy consumption, easier control and higher security, so it is widely applied in the fields of temperature control and heat storage. Compared with inorganic PCMs, organic PCMs have no supercooling and low corrosion, and therefore are more suitable to be used in cases that have high requirements for thermal cycle stability and safety. However, most organic PCMs, such as paraffin, are often flammable, which limits their applications in battery thermal management, firefighting clothing, solar energy and energy-saving buildings. On the basis of summarizing the types and functioning mechanism of flame retar-dants, this article provides mainly a review of the research advances of form-stable flame-retardant PCM, and a prospective discussion about the future development trends.
